As you get older, there are simple techniques to care for your skin and lifestyle tips to keep you feeling your best. We sat down with Cathy Williamson, a fashion, beauty, and lifestyle blogger from Dallas, TX, who founded The Middle Page, to discuss her favorite skincare tips.
Q: What is your secret to great skin?
A: I have to say that I’m very lucky because both my parents had great skin. My mother is 82, and her skin looks like she is 70, maybe not even. And my dad, seriously, up to the day he died, had no wrinkles. My grandmothers both had great skin too, so I believe heredity plays into that for sure, but I think there are some helpful tips to benefit your skin too! I used to buy absolutely everything, “Oh, it makes your eyes look better. I’ll get 10!” So I tried everything and got to the point where I thought, “This is too much. This takes too much time.” I was becoming exhausted with my routine, so I learned some simple, effective techniques to make my regimen easier.
1. Staying Out Of The Sun
There are many ways to avoid the sun while enjoying a day out with your family! Hats are a great go-to for avoiding the sun on the go, or an umbrella if you’re enjoying a park or beach day.
2. Putting Sunscreen On Every Day
Sunscreen is vital, especially in Texas or Florida, where the heat index is higher than average. A new study has discovered that regular sunscreen use protects against photo-aging: the wrinkling, spotting, and loss of elasticity caused by exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet radiation.
3. Augustinus Bader Products
“I started using Augustinus Bader 4 years ago, and I can see the clear difference in my skin. I am obsessed with the brand!”
Professor Augustinus Bader is a globally recognized biomedical scientist, physician, and one of the foremost experts in stem cell biology. He has spent most of his career working to develop treatments for disfiguring burns, which led to him creating this luxury skincare line to rejuvenate and repair your skin.
4. U Beauty
“Their body cream is amazing! It makes you feel so soft.”
U Beauty is a brand touted by Tina Craig, an entrepreneur and pioneer of influencer marketing and luxury skincare. Her main message was that beautiful skin doesn’t need to be complicated, “the simpler, the better.”
5. Retinol Eye Cream by Colleen Rothschild
“This would be the one thing I would bring on a desert island! “
Colleen Rothschild, aka the Guru of Beauty, has been in the business since the mid-eighties, creating a skincare line that provides a sensory-rich beauty experience.
6. Wash Your Face Every Night
It seems simple, but cleansing your face is a step many people skip.
Washing your face is vital in keeping your skin healthy and removing daily pollutants. When you sleep at night, your skin is in repair mode, and leaving products on your face may lead to clogged pores and poor cell turnover.
7. Botox & Fillers
“I started getting Botox and fillers when I was 35 years old. I usually get Botox twice a year and fillers once a year.”
Botox and fillers are non-invasive treatments designed to enhance your natural beauty. Start by researching options and talking to friends if you are considering Botox or filler. Find individuals with the look you desire and ask for recommendations. Ensure you visit a reputable spa or doctor to get the desired results.
